The Human Impact On Our Environment Is Actually Slowing Down |
Recently, according to thousands of residents living near Rio's beaches and bay, there is a major sanitation problem concerning citizens. Many neighborhoods lack proper sanitation, causing squalid water conditions, including raw sewage and extreme levels of disease-causing microorganisms in Guanabara Bay. Athletes have complained the water is littered with trash, and that it irritates their skin and causes stomach ailments. Some teams have instructed Olympic rowers to avoid splashing water on each other and to carry hand sanitizer onboard their boats. I feel like we should send help there, and achieve what they can not achieve themselves. We can repair the damage with the sewage waste, pipes, and facilities used all around the bay and beaches. This is important because its about the citizens lives, They can die easily if they were to get infected by the water surrounding them and it hurts us with polluting the water we need to be clean instead of making the situation worse for the nation and you. Researchers have found that while the impact of human activity on the planet is continuing to grow, it's now doing so at a slower rate than our economic and population growth. This means that humans are still taking over the planet at the expense of many species. Which means that we have become more efficient. In that relatively short timeframe, the global population grew 23 percent, and the global economy grew 153 percent, the researchers found. By contrast, the global human footprint grew only 9 percent in that time – still a troubling statistic, but at least it's markedly less than the population and economic growth.
I think this is extremely important because then we have to watch our resources with our future in our mind but it is a huge problem because some people are greedy and want the whole thing when they have to realize we need to share and compromise in order to stay alive in this world with the new and bigger population. Hopefully new regulations or restrictions will be placed to harm less the environment. We need to make a change before our situation gets any worse |
3.7 Billion Year Old Fossil Found
Scientists have found the oldest known remnant of life, a fossil dating back a staggering 3.7 billion years. If confirmed, the date would support the theory that life took root in just a blink of an eye after the planet’s birth. Such early life would also make life on Mars seem less of a long shot.Scientists say it’s actually a stromatolite, a mineral structure created by the busywork of countless microorganisms. These microbes thrived in a shallow sea bathing a still young and fresh Earth, according to a study in this week’s Nature. The structure of the rocks around the fossil suggests it was bathed in seawater. Beyond that, the team knows nothing of the stromatolite’s origins. Modern stromatolites — such as the famous mushroom-shaped examples at Australia’s Shark Bay — are built by crowds of bacteria and other single-celled microbes. But the identity of whatever was living 3.7 billion years ago is obscured by the altered state of rock from that era, which over the eons has been cooked and twisted beyond recognition.
I believe this could be an amazing impact on the earth because we can eventually go to Mars and expect more from our geologist in this world, that can impact the way we are currently living. Living in our totally different environment with technology and evolution with others. Its amazing endless possibilities.

Fairy Circles in Australia
"Fairy Circles" are regular, repeating patches of dirt in remote grasslands that, when viewed from above, look like whimsical rings that were scattered across a landscape. Despite their fanciful appearance, the patterns have been a source of serious scientific debate for the last four decades. While some have argued that the work of geometric patterns are the work of termites. Others have postulated that the circles form naturally as vegetation self-organizes in competition for scarce water and other nutrients. Led by ecological modeler Stephan Getzin of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany, this research team claimed that their discovery supported the theory that fairy circles were a pattern caused by the competition for water. According to this theory, which was detailed in the journal Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences. (PNAS) earlier this year, the biggest and most competitive grass plants take up the most water, leaving their weaker neighbors to die out. Over time, barren patches pop up where the weaklings once grew, with a hard, sunbaked crust of soil that doubles as a rainwater collection pool. Thirsty plants then form a circle around this crust, maximizing their access to this water, and thus, fairy circles are born.
I believe it is the actual cause of termites because of the scarce resources around us like for example the United States or now Australia. I believe this is an important part of information to the Earth because of the lack of water that is beginning to start all over the world and then it will be the lack of resources. The human population is getting to the point where we have to put a law to enforce how many is can each person have because if it keeps shooting up like this we will have a worse situation then there is already. This is one of the signs of when we actually need to do something because throughout the world there is small problems like this that will effect us all badly at the end of the day or it might be in the year where we cant keep up with the resource with the population level in the united States and this universe.

'Ghost Forests' Appear As Rising Sea Kills
OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. — Jennifer Walker stepped off her kayak into a wall of riverside grass. She steadied herself and stooped to scoop soil into a jar, then disappeared into the thicket for more. Solar power to rise from Chernobyl's nuclear ashes of amoeba fossils in the researcher's samples may help to explain why, jutting above the head-high marsh grass a couple hundred feet further back, cedar forest was dead.
Bare trunks of dead coastal forests are being discovered up and down the mid-Atlantic coastline, killed by the advance of rising seas. The "ghost forests," as scientists call them, Solar power to rise from Chernobyl's nuclear ashes eerie evidence of some of the world's fastest rates of sea level rise.
Forests provide habitat and protect against global warming, but they're declining worldwide because of land clearing, fires, disease and invasive species. The ghost forests show sea level rise can be yet another cause of deforestation. Seas are rising worldwide. because of the warming effects of greenhouse gas pollution from fossil fuels and farms. Several feet of sea level rise that is projected this century as the pace of climate change accelerates. That rise will inundate infrastructure, homes and ecosystems. Efforts to switch to clean energy, protect forests and revamp farming and transportation could curb the inundations ahead.
This has a huge impact on our system because with everything rising we can get more pollution which just kills us at the end of the day. It just endangers the human population with the lack of air and fresh water such as so many other things surrounding us like the whole environment. Trees are endangered with the sea water because of the contamination it has in the water which kills the rest of the soil including all living obejects, plants and etc.

Skeptical Science
"It's the sun."
In the last 35 years of global warming, the sun has shown a slight cooling trend. Sun and climate have been going in opposite directions. In the past century, the Sun can explain some of the increase in global temperatures, but a relatively small amount.
" Climate has changed."
Scientific analysis of past climates shows that greenhouse gasses, principally CO2, have controlled most ancient climate changes. The evidence for that is spread throughout the geological record. This makes it clear that this time around humans are the cause, mainly by our CO2 emissions.

Some companies, including Exxon Mobil, say the economics of climate change are too hard to predict for them to give investors hard numbers about the business impact of global warming.
Federal regulators may disagree and are considering requiring Exxon to do just that for the value of its oil reserves.
Now a long-shot legislative effort by a Florida congressman to prevent such a move by the federal government has become an unexpected flash point in the battle over disclosing climate-related risks — with potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in the balance.
It is important because we need to find a way of conserving the natural resources and stop polluting the world we live in or won't be living in anymore. Climate Change is a serious situation that not everyone believes in but they will when they see the effects get worse in the future years to come.

Gulf Stream slow down ties to changes in the Southern Hemisphere
The study looked at data from satellites and ocean sensors off Miami that have tracked what's known as the Atlantic overturning circulation for more than a decade. Together they show a definite slowdown since 2004, confirming a trend suspected before then from spottier data.
Looking at other observations to determine the cause, the researchers ruled out what had been the prime suspect until now: that massive melting and freshening in the North Atlantic could stop water from sinking and put the brakes on the overturning circulation, which moves warmer water north along the ocean's surface and sends cold water southward at depths.
"It appears that this 10-year slowdown is not related to salinity," Kelly said. In fact, despite more ice melt, surface water in the Arctic is getting saltier and therefore denser, she said, because of less precipitation. "That means the slowdown could not possibly be due to salinity -- it's just backwards. The North Atlantic has actually been getting saltier."

Daylight Savings Time
When Does It Start and End?Historically, daylight saving time has begun in the summer months and ended for winter, though the dates have changed over time as the U.S. government has passed new statutes, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO).
Starting in 2007, DST begins in the United States on the second Sunday in March, when people move their clocks forward an hour at 2 a.m. local standard time (so at 2 a.m. on that day, the clocks will then read 3 a.m. local daylight time). Daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday in November, when clocks are moved back an hour at 2 a.m. local daylight time (so they will then read 1 a.m. local standard time).
This year, DST began on March 13 and will end on Nov. 6. And next year, DST begins on March 12 and ends on Nov. 5, 2017

4 Texas Children Dead From Pesticide
Four children died from the just simple mistake of washing away the pesticide with water. At least five people were hospitalized. There were 10 people inside the mobile home at the time, according to Davis. Crews arrived at the scene just after 5 a.m. after receiving a call that something was wrong and that people at the address were sick. The children that died were age 7 to 17 years old. They do not name the names but they will soon release it. Found it.
I believe this is so horrible because people do intolerant actions that affect not just them but others that have led to death because of an unknown dealer did not explain or did not care to read about the product and what t mix it with or what not too. and its sad to see that happening around the world small incidents that will just lead to just bigger and worse things in reality because of the simpleness of reading the information is nonexistent.

Solar power to rise from Chernobyl's nuclear ashes
On 26 April 1986 one of four nuclear reactors at the Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded, triggering the biggest nuclear catastrophe in history. Some living nearby found their lives changed almost immediately, for It was the worst nuclear accident in history, directly causing the deaths of 50 people, with at least an additional 4,000 fatalities believed to be caused by exposure to radiation.
The 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl power plant in Ukraine also resulted in vast areas of land being contaminated by nuclear fallout, with a 30-kilometre exclusion zone, which encompassed the town of Pripyat, being declared in the area round the facility. Now two companies from China plan to build a one-gigawatt solar power plant on 2,500 hectares of land in the exclusion zone to the south of the Chernobyl plant. until the full scale of the human and environmental disaster was realised.
Supposedly it is suppose to be $1 billion dollars. "It is cheap land, and abundant sunlight constitutes a solid foundation for the project,” says Ostap Semerak, Ukraine’s minister of environment and natural resources.I have no clue if this is supposed to be a good idea but so far I really don't think this is because it isn't fully cleared of radiation a6t least I don't think. It does not sound like a safe plan to me because of everything with surroundings there how t affected the climate. I just somewhere kind of think it won't work with the things that have happened there.

Tiny Moth named after Donald Trump
A small moth with a yellowish-white coif of scales has been named after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, in honor of the former reality TV show host and real estate magnate's signature hairdo.
The new species, dubbed Neopalpa donaldtrumpi, lives in a habitat that spans southern California and Mexico's Baja California and was named by evolutionary biologist Vazrick Nazari in an article published in the scientific journal ZooKeys.
"The moth, the second species of a genus of twirler moths, can be distinguished by the yellowish-white scales on the head of its adults, according to the journal."
I just think it is ridiculous the things we are doing to this country. If there was laughing faces I would put millions because it is amazing how people come up with the randomest things to resemble him.

Does Killing Birds Make Airports Safer?
After a flock of Canada geese knocked out the engines of a US Airways jetliner in January 2009, pilot “Sully” Sullenberger was famously able to safely land the Airbus A320 on the Hudson River. What became known as the “Miracle on the Hudson” was happy news, especially for the 155 passengers whose lives Sullenberger saved. But it was terrible news for geese and other birds that migrate or make their homes near the three major airports in the New York City area. To prevent a similar incident from happening again, nearly 70,000 birds have been intentionally killed near John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports over the past eight years, the Associated Press reports. Birds strike planes near these airports on a daily basis, the AP reports.
The damage most often is to the birds, not to the planes or their passengers. From 2004 to April 2016, 249 birds damaged airplanes, according to Federal Aviation Administration data cited by the AP. Those birds included 54 seagulls, 12 osprey, 11 double-crested cormorants, 30 geese and 69 unknown species. This is dangerous because it kills birds and continues to grow into bigger numbers.

Air Pollution May Lead to Dementia in Older Women
Scientists and engineers found that older women who live in places with fine particulate matter exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's standard are 81 percent more at risk for global cognitive decline and 92 percent more likely to develop dementia, including Alzheimer's.
If their findings hold up in the general population, air pollution could be responsible for about 21 percent of dementia cases, according to the study.
"Microscopic particles generated by fossil fuels get into our body directly through the nose into the brain," said University Professor Caleb Finch at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and co-senior author of the study. "Cells in the brain treat these particles as invaders and react with inflammatory responses, which over the course of time, appear to promote Alzheimer's disease.
